About Sophie

Sophie Raphenne, Wildflower Counselling

I value authentic relationships above all and believe that honesty, kindness, and compassion are fundamental attributes that make life worth living as they bring people together. They give us a shared sense of humanity, which underlies my approach as a therapist. Reflecting on my journey, I can see how these values have influenced my career choices.

I guess it is my own suffering and search for meaning that led me to become a therapist. Initially choosing a career based on academic achievements, I soon realised that my heart wasn’t in it. A depression in my twenties - triggered by childhood and adolescence trauma, led me to experience the huge benefits of therapy. Training as a therapist then became a true calling. I had a full-time job at Google when I decided to study counselling and psychotherapy. For six years, I cumulated the two. I left my Google job at the end of 2012 and set up my private practice in Dublin in 2013 after graduating.

Additionally, my encounter with Buddhism in 2010 significantly influenced my personal growth and therapeutic approach. I now integrate mindfulness practices into therapy sessions when appropriate, as Buddhism's emphasis on the mind aligns extremely well with modern psychology.

As a fully accredited counsellor since 2016 with over 10 years of professional experience, I adhere to the ethical guidelines set forth by the IACP (Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I am also a qualified mindfulness teacher and a member of the MTAI (Mindfulness Teacher Association Ireland).
